November 26, 2019, Manila—Raising awareness on rider safety is one of the top priorities for ADEC Innovations’ Safety and Security Office, as a significant number of the company’s employees are riders.
Part of the office’s efforts to promote safe driving among their employees was a comprehensive Safety Riding Seminar, conducted in partnership with Yamaha Motors Philippines.
During the seminar, chief instructor Neil Hindang reviewed the most basic driving courtesies and discussed the most common driving misconceptions while drawing experiences from the personal experiences of ADEC Innovations employees.
According to Hindang, it’s essential to refresh the basics of safety riding. The growing number of motorcycle riders in the country has exponentially increased the risk of motorcycle accidents.
“It is our objective to avoid road accidents by informing both riders and passengers,” Hindang added.
The Land and Transportation Office reports that there are over seven million registered motorcycles in the country. The same report shows that motorcycle accidents are now the ninth leading cause of death among Filipinos.
For Safety and Security Office Head Richard Dayuta, seminars like this are vital to raising awareness on the most pressing safety issues among employees.
“We expect to offer this program to a broader audience down the road, with extending it to the families of our employees as a starting point.”

Manila, Philippines (July 21, 2016)—Mr. David Young, Chief Operations Officer of American Data Exchange (AMDATEX), a leading-edge business process management company (BPM) of ADEC Innovations, spoke at the ASEAN Corporate Sustainability Summit and Awards (ACSSA) held at the Manila Marriott Grand Ballroom Hotel. He was invited to share his insights for a break-out session on sustainable resource management. At the session, he highlighted the role of data and data technologies to accelerate and improve resource management processes.
“The aim of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, is to help transform our world for the better,” explained, Mr. Young. He added that supporting the SDGs would require world leaders “to promote sustainable resource management not just on a company-wide or national scale, but on a global scale.”
During his presentation, Mr. Young sought to discuss the role that data technologies for sustainable resource management can contribute toward the achievement of SDGs. To illustrate, he cited how SDG 12—“to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”—can benefit from product life cycle assessments (LCA). The process relies heavily on accurate data.
LCAs are usually performed by companies to help them improve their products, optimize their processes, manage risks and identify their products’ impact in the environment throughout their life cycle. Mr. Young was empathic in promoting the idea of globally interlinked databases that provide open access to credible information in order to empower global stakeholders to pursue sustainable consumption and production.
Mr. Young admitted that there are challenges for the public sector to create universally linked LCA databases, among which are lack of resources, data management expertise and reliable storage; digitization issues; integration of multiple sources of data; and information security.
Nevertheless, he concluded that overcoming these challenges is possible with the cooperation between public and private organizations and stakeholders, and that cooperation is the logical choice. Mr. Young clarified that, for the public sphere, collaborating with the private sector “presents an opportunity to promote the public good on a truly global scale,” while for the private sector, “it presents an opportunity to do good while doing good business.”
Mr. Young was joined at the break-out session by another speaker, Mr. Justin Morgan who serves as Country Director of Oxfam Philippines.
ACSSA’s 2016 theme is “Empowering Sustainable Convergence.” The event has been running annually for three years, aiming to motivate and inspire industry leaders, sustainability practitioners, civil society partners, regional regulators, public sector leaders and aid agencies to converge and become more involved in sustainable development.

"Data is the new currency," explained Donovan. "But many government agencies have yet to embrace all the capabilities of big data. There needs to be more conversations on new technologies between the government and the private sector so we can take advantage of the full potential hidden within unstructured data."
Donovan admitted that investing in Africa is not without challenges. He pointed out that weak data capture techniques can undermine policymaking. These can be addressed by "organized disruption," which meant introducing new but more effective data capture and management techniques, as well as by public-private partnerships.
"We need to come together…public-private partnerships allow government services and civil society to deliver the needed goods faster to the market. Kenya is in a unique position, having a very vibrant labor force that can deliver services to Africa and to the rest of the world," he concluded.

Nairobi, Kenya (May 23-24, 2016) — "Data is the new currency, and I don't believe we are truly embracing it and all its possibilities," American Data Exchange (AMDATEX) CEO James M. Donovan declared as a panelist at the second session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2), also known as the "Parliament of the Environment."
He added, "Our government offices are currently not embracing this (data) power in relation to helping themselves make better decisions. What we need now is organized disruption. We need to introduce innovation at a pace that really needs to take science, policy makers, the private sector and civil society in total along this journey of change."
Donovan participated in "Big Data and Innovation: Delivering Information for the Sustainable Development Goals," a key panel discussion attended by representatives of major groups and stakeholders from different sectors, including business and industry, children and youth, farmers, indigenous peoples and their communities, local governments, non-government organizations, local scientific and technological organizations, women, and workers and trade unions.
Representing the perspective of the business sector and the business process management and data management industries, Donovan made a case for creating an enabling environment for facilitating the development of disruptive technologies that will accelerate the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
"The private sector is willing to become involved, but we need an enabling environment, whether provided by the UN, UNEA, UNEP or other agencies: a safe zone in which we can fail-and fail forward-to be able to bring innovation to the table," said Donovan.
Donovan added that creating such an environment for the UN would require upgrading its system for data collection, storage, sharing and business intelligence, which would be crucial in supporting a bottom-up approach to social monitoring and information.
